He was born to Lou Helen Knowles and Matthew Q. Knowles. Knowles grew up in Gadsden and had a passion for music from a young age.
He completed his studies at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he graduated in 1974. He holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Mathew Knowles married Tina Knowles in 1980. The couple filed for divorce in 2009, but the matter was dropped in 2010.

Career
Knowles began her career in sales, specializing in office and medical equipment. In 1976, he moved to Houston and worked for Xerox Corporation for 10 years.
During his time here, he mainly worked in the medical system sales department, selling CT/MRI imaging equipment to hospitals and medical facilities.
However, Knowles’ true passion lies in music, leading him to found his music company, Music World Entertainment, in 1992.
Under the direction of Music World Entertainment, Knowles founded several record labels, including Music World Gospel, Music World Kids and Music World Country/Compadre.
He also established joint ventures with major music labels such as Sony Music, Interscope/Geffen/A&M and Fontana/Universal.
Knowles became the manager of Destiny’s Child, a musical group that achieved great success. He invited famous producers and helped the group land a contract with Columbia Records.
