Early life
Buddy Valastro’s entry into the baking profession was no accident. In fact, it was a predetermined fate. The reason is because he was born into a family of baker. His father, Bartolo Valastro Sr. is the founder of Carlo’s Bakery. His parents were first-generation Italian Americans born in their homeland, Italy, before immigrating to the United States.
His date of birth is listed as March 3, 2021 and he was born in Hoboken County, New Jersey. He grew up in the city with his family members. He has four older sisters and is the only son of his parents. His sisters are Mary Sciarrone, Lisa Gonzalez, Grace Faugno and Maddalena Castano. Buddy Valastro was introduced to the family business at a very young age, 11 years old to be exact. Six years later, he took over leadership of the bakery after his father passed away. This happened in 1994. Before the death of the elder Valastro, Buddy had learned everything he needed to become a good baker. He loved the industry from day one and often spent his free time developing his own recipes.
Because he was assigned to manage the family business, he was unable to attend college. Furthermore, he did not have much interest in pursuing further education as he had learned all he needed to become a master baker while working at Carlo’s Bakery.

Buddy Valastro completed his elementary and middle school education in Bergen County.
He attended Ridgefield Park High School. He then took baking classes at Bergen County Technical High School, Teterboro Campus. The courses he took at this technical school taught him new recipes.
Career
Since 1994, Carlo’s Bakery has flourished under the leadership of Buddy Valastro. Starting with just one bakery, the business now has 17 additional bakeries in other US cities. It has seven bakeries in New Jersey while the remaining ten bakeries can be found in locations such as Philadelphia, Bethlehem, Westbury, Orlando, Dallas, Connecticut and Minnesota.
The bakery was featured on the TLC show, Cake Boss. This has helped increase the bakery’s popularity as it showcases how they create edible artistic cakes as well as the relationships between family members and employees associated with the business. The reality show aired its first episode on April 19, 2009 and has had four spin-offs: Next Great Baker, Kitchen Boss, Bake You Rich and Bakery Boss. Buddy Valastro is credited as a producer on all of these shows.
In addition to running Carlo’s Bakery, he also founded other food companies. He is the CEO of Las Vegas-based Italian-American restaurant, Buddy V’s. He is also the man behind the pizza restaurant Eat Pizza Cake, located in Nevada.
In June 2014, he founded an event planning and catering company, Buddy V’s Events. He was appointed Brand Ambassador of Whole Earth Sweetener Co. in 2016. He is the face of the company’s campaign – Rethink Sweet. In 2007, he was invited to be a guest advisor on the Food Network Challenge show. He was a Guest Judge on the reality TV show The Apprentice.

Buddy Valastro is happily married to Lisa Valastro. The couple got married on October 14, 2001. He got married when he was 24 years old. The Valastro union gave birth to four beautiful children – Sofia, Bartolo III, Marco and Carlo Valastro.
From 2001 to 2014, Buddy Valastro and his family resided in East Hanover Township, New Jersey. Currently, they are headquartered in Montville, New Jersey. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He had his driver’s license suspended for 90 days and was fined $300 for his violation.
Buddy Valastro was involved in an accident at home in September 2020 when his right hand was impaled by a pin in the bowling alley at his home. He was saved by his sons and family members from bleeding to death. To restore good health, he had to undergo two emergency surgeries.
Buddy Valastro is a strong supporter of the Special Olympics. He once baked a commemorative cake to commemorate the announcement that the 2014 Special Olympics USA National Games would be held in New Jersey.
