Bartolo Valastro Jr. (born March 3, 1977) is an Italian-American baker, pastry designer, and food entrepreneur.
However, he uses the stage name Buddy Valastro. He is the owner and director of Carlo’s Bakery, a company with eighteen branches across the United States and Brazil.
He is a notable television personality and rose to international fame after appearing on the baking show Cake Boss in 2009.
He also appeared on other culinary shows such as Next Great Baker, Kitchen Boss, Bake You Rich and Bakery Boss.
He is the CEO of the Las Vegas-based Italian-American restaurant Buddy V’s. He is also the man behind the Nevada-based pizza restaurant Eat Pizza Cake.

Early life
Buddy Valastro’s journey into baking was no accident. In fact, it was predestined. That’s because he was born into a family of bakers. His father, Bartolo Valastro Sr., was the founder of Carlo’s Bakery. His parents were first-generation Italian-Americans born in their native Italy before immigrating to the United States.
His date of birth is recorded as March 3, 2021 and he was born in Hoboken, New Jersey. He grew up in this city with his family members. He has four sisters and is the only son of his parents. His sisters are Mary Sciarrone, Lisa Gonzalez, Grace Faugno, and Maddalena Castano. The name Buddy was a nickname given to him by his parents, which has stuck over time.
Buddy Valastro was introduced to the family business at a very young age, at the age of eleven to be exact. Six years later, he would take over the leadership of the bakery after his father passed away. This happened in 1994. Before the elder Valastro passed away, Buddy had learned everything he needed to know to become a good baker. He loved the business from day one and often spent his free time developing his own recipes.
Because he had to manage the family business, he was unable to attend college. Furthermore, he had little interest in pursuing higher education because he had learned everything he needed to become a master baker while working at Carlo’s Bakery.
Education
Buddy Valastro completed his elementary and secondary education in Bergen County.
He attended Ridgefield Park High School. He then took baking classes at Bergen County Technical High School, Teterboro campus. The courses he took at this technical school taught him new recipes.
Career
Since 1994, Carlo’s Bakery has grown tremendously under the leadership of Buddy Valastro. Starting with just one bakery, the business now has seventeen more bakeries in other cities across the United States. Seven of the bakeries are in New Jersey while the remaining ten can be found in locations such as Philadelphia, Bethlehem, Westbury, Orlando, Dallas, Connecticut, and Minnesota.
The bakery was featured on TLC’s Cake Boss. This helped increase the bakery’s popularity as it showed how they make edible cake art and the relationships between the family members and employees involved in the business. The reality television show aired its first episode on April 19, 2009 and has had four spin-offs: Next Great Baker, Kitchen Boss, Bake You Rich, and Bakery Boss. Buddy Valastro is credited as a producer on all of these shows.
In addition to running Carlo’s Bakery, he has founded other food companies. He is the CEO of the Las Vegas-based Italian-American restaurant Buddy V’s. He is also the man behind the Nevada-based pizza restaurant Eat Pizza Cake.
In June 2014, he founded the event planning and catering company, Buddy V’s Events. He was named a Brand Ambassador for Whole Earth Sweetener Co. in 2016. He is the face of the company’s campaign, Rethink Sweet. In 2007, he was invited to be a Guest Advisor on the Food Network Challenge. He is a former Guest Judge on the reality TV show The Apprentice.
He has a partnership with The Pound Bakery, a pet treat company. He has helped the company create delicious dog treats based on Italian recipes.

Personal life
Buddy Valastro is happily married to Lisa Valastro. The couple tied the knot on October 14, 2001. He was 24 years old when they got married. The Valastro union has produced four beautiful children – Sofia, Bartolo III, Marco, and Carlo Valastro.
From 2001 to 2014, Buddy Valastro and his family lived in East Hanover Township, New Jersey. They currently live in Montville, New Jersey. He was arrested for driving under the influence. His license was suspended for 90 days and he was fined $300 for his offense.
Buddy Valastro suffered an accident at home in September 2020 when his right hand was impaled by a battery installer in his home bowling alley. He was saved from death by blood loss by his sons and family members. He underwent two emergency surgeries to recover.
Buddy Valastro is a strong supporter of the Paralympics. He once baked a commemorative cake to celebrate the announcement that the 2014 U.S. Paralympic National Games would be held in New Jersey.
