Early life
Carmit Bachar was born on September 4, 1974 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
She is of mixed Israeli, Indonesian, Dutch and Chinese descent. She grew up in Encino, California.
Her father is of Jewish-Israeli descent, while her mother is of Dutch, Indonesian, and Chinese descent.
Both her parents were dancers; Carmit Bachar’s father worked with Marcel Marceau and Elvis Presley, while her mother, Dina Van Minnen, was a dance teacher at the Bancroft International High School of Performing Arts.
Carmit Bachar was born with a cleft palate and cleft lip and underwent multiple surgeries from the age of six months until she was 18 to correct the defect. Finally, when she was 18, she had her final procedure, which was a major one. A bone was taken from her head to create a bridge in her nose and it was successful.
Before her surgery, Carmit Bachar was bullied by her classmates because of her disability, and several agents rejected her and advised her against pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. However, she was able to achieve her dream of becoming a singer after her surgery.

Career with The Pussycat Dolls
Carmit Bachar joined The Pussycat Dolls in 1995. The group was an American all-female striptease and dance troupe founded in Los Angeles by choreographer Robin Antin.
In 2003, the group successfully signed a recording contract with Interscope Geffen A&M Records, making the group a music label, and Carmit Bachar became the first person to sign to the record label.
She was one of the group’s three lead singers and featured on the singles from their successful debut album PCD—Beep, Buttons, I Don’t Need a Man and Hot Stuff (I Want You Back).
Released on September 12, 2005, the album explored themes of feminism and romance while incorporating sexual metaphors into the lyrics. In late 2006 and early 2007, she toured with the group to promote the album, which was a commercial success.
However, Carmit Bachar left The Pussycat Dolls in March 2008 to pursue other projects. However, the group’s second album, Doll Domination, was released by Interscope Records in September 2008 after her departure. Sadly, the album received lukewarm reviews.
Solo career
In 1997, Carmit Bachar performed in a Nickelodeon Movies film titled Good Burger, in which she was credited as a dancer. She has since appeared in other films, including Along Came Polly, 13 Going on 30, The Scorpion King, and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.
As a dancer, she has appeared live in several rock/pop shows. In 1999 and 2000, Carmit Bachar toured the world with singer Ricky Martin as a “Livin’ La Vida Loca girl”.
In 2001, she danced for Aaliyah’s music video titled Rock the Boat, and that same year, she opened an underground nightclub called Freedom with Lee Cherry, Scarlett Cherry and others. There, she performed a multi-genre cabaret act.
