Carrie Underwood has opened up about the judging role she will be taking on on the next season of “American Idol.”
The 2005 “American Idol” winner, now a mother of two, has returned to her roots by joining the ABC show.
Ahead of her debut as a judge on “American Idol,” Underwood was asked about her approach to mentoring aspiring artists during an appearance on “Good Morning America” on Friday.
The 41-year-old singer shared that she is committed to being honest and stressed the importance of providing constructive and supportive feedback to contestants.
“I have a problem. I can’t lie,” Underwood said. “I feel like I’m going to be very honest, but hopefully, I’m also going to be very constructive and encouraging.”
When discussing Underwood’s potential approach to judging contestants, “GMA’s” Sam Champion hinted that she would be lenient, prompting the country star to laugh and reply, “Oh, no. Just ask my kids.”
Meanwhile, when “Idol” host and executive producer Megan Wolflick was asked by Entertainment Tonight why Underwood was chosen to replace Katy Perry, she replied, “She’s our queen.”

“Well, it’s been 20 years since she auditioned in St. Louis for ‘American Idol,’ and having the first ‘Idol’ contestant on the judging panel is always exciting to me,” Wolflick said.
The “American Idol” team has been actively searching for Perry’s replacement since she left in February.
“We’ve been looking, you know, and obviously talked to Carrie a little bit here. It’s been over two months since [Season 22] It’s over, but these discussions have been going on for a while and we’re really excited to do it all,” the showrunner explained.
Underwood will join Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie as judges on season 23 of “American Idol.”
It’s not yet known how much Underwood will earn from “American Idol,” but it’s worth noting that she already has a net worth of $140 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
