Early life and education
Chuck Norris, 84, was born on March 10, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to Wilma and Ray Norris. He was the eldest of three sons.
His father was a World War II veteran, mechanic, bus driver and truck driver. His mother was a homemaker. Norris is of mixed Irish, English and Cherokee descent.
He grew up in a poor rural area where he experienced bullying and racial discrimination. As a child, he was shy and introverted and did not excel academically or in sports.
Norris joined the Air Force after graduating from high school in 1958 and was stationed at Osan Air Base in South Korea, where he studied martial arts, especially Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo.
He earned black belts in both disciplines and founded his own style, Chun Kuk Do. In 1962, he returned to the United States and served as an aviation police officer at March Air Force Base in California. He retired from the Air Force in 1966.

Chuck Norris was married twice and had five children. He married his first wife, Diana Holecek, in 1958 when he was 18 and she was 17. They had two sons, Mike and Eric, who later became actors and martial artists.
However, their marriage became strained by Norris’s frequent absences due to his film career, and a scandal ensued in 1963 when Norris fathered a daughter, Dina, with another woman. Dina did not meet her father until she was 26. Norris and Holecek divorced in 1989 after 30 years of marriage.
Norris married his second wife, Gena O’Kelley, in 1998. Gena, a former model and actress, was 23 years younger than Norris. In 2001, they had twins, Dakota and Danielleigh.
