Early life and education
Colby Brandon Jones was born on May 28, 2002 in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. He is the son of Chad Jones and Lesley Bryant. His father, Chad, played college basketball for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
Colby has four siblings – Marcus, Cairon, Trent and Christian. His older brother, Cairon (CJ), played basketball at Arkansas and Middle Tennessee State before turning professional.
Colby attended Pinson Valley High School and then transferred to Mountain Brook High School in Alabama, where he excelled at basketball. After his successful high school career, Colby resolved to play college basketball at Xavier University.

Career

After a coaching change, he transferred to Mountain Brook High School for his junior season, where he played alongside Trendon Watford and helped the team win its third straight state championship.
During his senior season at Mountain Brook, Jones assumed a more important role and averaged 25.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.5 steals. every match. This performance earned him several awards, including Over the Mountain Magazine Player of the Year, All-Southern Metro Player, and Alabama Class 7A Player of the Year.
Jones is a four-star recruit committed to play college basketball at Xavier University. However, his freshman season was interrupted when he missed the first five games due to COVID-19 contact tracing.
Despite this setback, Jones made an impact, including hitting a game-winning three-pointer against Providence. As a freshman, he averaged 7.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game and was selected to the Big East All-Freshman Team.
