Coldplay’s 15-minute delay angers Glastonbury fans but performance attracts record audience

Coldplay’s highly anticipated performance at the 2024 Glastonbury music festival has hit a minor hiccup.

Chris Martin and his band members unexpectedly showed up 15 minutes later than scheduled.

The band made their presence felt without hesitation, opening the show with crowd favorite “Yellow.” They then moved into a series of hits, captivating the audience with songs like “The Scientist” and “Higher Power.”

As the event began, the audience was energized, enthusiastically waving LED wristbands while performers set off confetti and fireworks. However, some attendees expressed disappointment at their late arrival.

@147Sturls mentioned the band on X, formerly Twitter, “You’re late guys. Change it up!”

@solarspheres also wrote, “Classic Coldplay 10 minutes late.”

“This would really be a Coldplay show if they weren’t late,” wrote @humanheart___.

A staggering audience of 100,000 people, including Hollywood celebrities, tuned in to witness the show’s spectacular spectacle. The massive audience participation impressed viewers from the comfort of their homes, making the festival the “biggest ever” event to date.

@CelticEnded2iar exclaimed, “How amazing did the crowd look at Glastonbury? Coldplay. Absolutely amazing.”

@XLUCYkateee added: “What a crazy crowd for Coldplay at Glastonbury.”

In a moment that surprised Glastonbury, Coldplay stunned the audience by appearing as a special guest. A surprise appearance by actor Michael J. Fox, known for his role in Back to the future and his battle with Parkinson’s disease, which brought both the 100,000 live viewers and those watching on the BBC to tears.

Coldplay also achieved a major milestone by making history as the first group to headline Glastonbury five times. Martin attributed their success together as a band to Michael, admitting he was “the main reason”.

“The main reason we joined the band was because we saw ‘Back to the Future,’ so thank you to our forever hero and one of the greatest people on Earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox. Thank you so much, Michael,” he said in an emotional speech.

In 1999, Coldplay first appeared on the Glastonbury stage, starting their journey at the New Bands Tent and then performing at the Glastonbury event in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016.
