Coruscant is one of the most prominent planets in all of Star Wars, and it has an appropriately large amount of screen time to convey its importance. Coruscant is one of the most exciting planets in Star Wars, largely because of how imaginative it is. Through the various Star Wars movies and shows, Coruscant has changed, evolved, and grown even more detailed. It’s the center of the Star Wars galaxy map for a reason, and it has proven itself central to the entire franchise through hours of screen time.

Like the percentage of Star Wars on desert planets, the breakdown of how much of Star Wars takes place on Coruscant has a few ground rules. Each entry on the list is ranked based on the percentage of its runtime that takes place there. Additionally, only canon, on-screen, non-video game projects are eligible for consideration. Flashbacks and memories depicted on-screen count, but visions do not. The runtime displayed on Disney+ was used to calculate percentages, and finally, for shows with more than five episodes set on Coruscant, a rough estimation was given instead of an exact figure.

Coruscant Briefly Appears In Grogu’s Memory Of Order 66

At first glance, it seems that The Book of Boba Fett doesn’t feature Coruscant at all. It took place mainly on Tatooine, though there was a slight detour to Ossus to see Luke Skywalker’s Jedi temple and Grogu’s time training there. However, Grogu was the key to Coruscant’s sneaky appearance in the show, as he had a flashback to Order 66, when he was in the Jedi temple on Coruscant. That flashback sequence lasted for 39 seconds, which paled in comparison to The Book of Boba Fett‘s larger runtime as a show with nearly hour-long episodes.

Like The Book of Boba Fett, it doesn’t seem that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has any scenes set on Coruscant. The movie mostly follows the crew of Rogue One on their mission to secure the plans for the Death Star, and while it takes them across the galaxy, they never make a stop on Coruscant. There was, however, a flashback sequence when Jyn Erso remembered a meeting her father, Galen, had years prior. That memory took place on Coruscant, and since it totaled up to 24 seconds, 0.29% of Rogue One took place on Coruscant.

Coruscant Made Its First Canon Appearance In The Return Of The Jedi Special Edition

Many viewers won’t remember seeing Coruscant in Return of the Jedi, and if they only have a physical copy from prior to 1997, that’s because Coruscant wasn’t in the movie. George Lucas was notorious for changing and adding to the original trilogy in special editions and re-releases, and in the first special edition for Return of the Jedi, he added two shots of celebrations on Coruscant following the destruction of the New Death Star. The Coruscant scenes only total up to 32 seconds, but the city-sized planet made an appearance nonetheless.

Most of Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures takes place at a Jedi Outpost far away from the Galactic Core. However, the show’s first episode saw Master Yoda bid farewell to a group of Jedi younglings as they went off to their respective outposts, and he made his goodbye at the Jedi temple on Coruscant. Yoda’s sendoff was very speedy, however, and only accounted for four minutes of Young Jedi Adventures, or 0.6% of its total runtime.

The New Republic Briefly Headquartered On Coruscant

Coruscant plays a prominent, albeit short-lived, role in Ahsoka season 1, episode 7. Hera Syndulla had to answer to a panel of New Republic senators for disobeying their orders, and for her report on the threat Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Imperial remnants posed. The most well-known seat of the New Republic’s power was Hosnian Prime, as it was in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but in the transition period just after Return of the Jedi, they were briefly headquartered on Coruscant. Since that scene lasted for four minutes and 44 seconds, 1.26% of Ahsoka took place on Coruscant.

Star Wars: Tales of the Empire features Coruscant more briefly than Ahsoka did, but because of its shorter runtime per episode, and smaller number of episodes, it made up more of the show. At the beginning of Tales of the Empire, Lyn Rakish, better known as the Fourth Sister, freed Barriss Offee from her imprisonment on Coruscant. After a short, threatening conversation, she convinced the former Padawan to become one of Darth Vader’s Inquisitors. Lyn and Barriss’ conversation lasted just over three minutes, but it made up 3.44% of Tales of the Empire‘s total runtime.

The Mandalorian is one of the oddest shows in terms of how much it features Coruscant. The ecumenopolis made several appearances in The Mandalorian season 3, most notably in episode 3, which focused almost entirely on Penn Pershing and his adjustment to life in the New Republic. It also made a few small appearances in flashbacks, but since The Mandalorian is the longest-running live-action Star Wars show, Coruscant doesn’t account for much of its runtime. Over 48 minutes of The Mandalorian take place on Coruscant, but with three seasons of eight hour-long episodes, it only accounted for 4.67%.

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace was the first Star Wars movie featuring Coruscant from the start, but it didn’t feature it in excruciating detail. Just over 16 minutes of The Phantom Menace‘s two hour and 18 minute runtime takes place on the ecumenopolis. That means that 11.97% of The Phantom Menace features scenes set on Coruscant. Most of that time came from scenes set in the Jedi High Council’s chambers, where Jedi Masters like Yoda and Mace Windu decided Anakin Skywalker’s fate. For most of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Clone Force 99 was on the run from the Empire, and Coruscant was the last place they wanted to be. However, the planet appeared in a fair amount of the show. Several of Crosshair’s missions for the Empire began on Coruscant, and Rex asked the rest of the team to assist him in a few missions, like recovering Admiral Rampart’s flight log to use as evidence. Since six of The Bad Batch‘s 47 episodes took place on Coruscant, only an estimation is available, but that approximation asserts that about 10% of the show took place there.

All told, Tales of the Jedi features Coruscant for almost 28 minutes. Both Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku spent a considerable amount of time in their respective episodes there, though for very different purposes.

Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones spends a considerably larger chunk of its runtime on Coruscant than The Phantom Menace did. Scenes set on Coruscant took up over 40 minutes of Attack of the Clones‘ two hours and 24 minutes of runtime. That’s still not as much time on the city-planet as later installments, but Attack of the Clones painted one of the most complete pictures of life on Coruscant. From Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s speeder chase to their search for Zam Wessell, which took them through a seedy bar, several parts of Coruscant’s multi-layered makeup were on display.

However, based on the fact that Coruscant appeared in 72 of those episodes, it’s safe to say it played a massive role in the show. Coruscant made up approximately 54% of The Clone Wars, which likely totals over a full day of screen time.

From the Battle of Coruscant (which, technically, takes place above Coruscant) to Darth Vader’s birth and Order 66, Coruscant was the stage for most of Revenge of the Sith‘s tragedies. With a total runtime of two hours and 22 minutes, over 59% of Revenge of the Sith takes place on Coruscant. It’s easy to see why Coruscant is so prominent, given Palpatine’s political manuevering took center stage for much of the movie, and his manipulation of Anakin was almost entirely on the ecumenopolis.

Andor, the franchise’s critically-acclaimed take on a political spy thriller, featured Coruscant heavily. It was the seat of the Galactic Senate’s power at the time, and even though Palpatine all but controlled the governing body, it still had a massive role to play. Both Mon Mothma and Luthen Rael coordinated their rebellious efforts from Coruscant, meaning a huge chunk of the show took place there. Unfortunately, that makes it difficult to calculate the exact amount of screen time, and an estimation will have to do for now. Since Coruscant appears in nine of Andor‘s 12 episodes, it likely takes up around 7 hours of the show’s screen time.

Coruscant was a very important planet, but it wasn’t always important to Star Wars as a franchise. Coruscant did not appear in several areas of Star Wars, and it was most notably absent from most of the original trilogy and the entire sequel trilogy. The original trilogy didn’t include it because while George Lucas had the idea for a planet-sized city, he didn’t have the technology to realize it at the time. The sequel trilogy, however, simply created a new planet, Hosnian Prime, to replace Coruscant. Several other Star Wars movies and shows left the planet out because it simply didn’t fit into their narratives.

About 20% of Star Wars takes place on Coruscant, at least as far as canon goes. That, of course, includes estimations of the planet’s screen time in The Clone Wars, Andor, and The Bad Batch, but it’s still a massive number. Even including the huge swaths of the Skywalker saga that ignored the city-planet entirely, Coruscant accounts for about a fifth of the entire franchise. Coruscant is clearly an important part of Star Wars, and it has the screen time to prove it.
