Ardavan Farhad Moshiri, famous British-Iranian businessman, was born on May 18, 1955 in the Imperial State of Iran. His parents, Majid Moshiri and Mahnaz Moshiri, raised him.
His father, Majid (1926–2020), was a military doctor who trained as a pathologist and later became a senior military judge. His mother’s family owns Iran’s leading publishing house, Kayhan.
Moshiri studied economics and statistics at University College London and later qualified as a chartered accountant in the UK. He is of Iranian descent, born in Iran before his family moved to the UK. Moshiri holds both British and Iranian citizenship and considers Islam to be his religion.
Career
Alisher Moshiri has worked in professional services firms, working at Ernst & Young, Pannell Kerr Forster and Deloitte & Touche in senior positions. From 1993 to 2006, he was Chief Executive Officer of GNE Group plc and then Chief Executive Officer of Europe Steel Limited from 2000 to 2008.
He then served as Chairman of Metalloinvest from 2006-2013 and then of USM Holdings until 2022. Moshiri and business partner Alisher Usmanov co-own Red & White Holdings, which acquired a significant stake in Arsenal Football Club between 2007-2012, achieved at least 29.72% Ownership.
Although they state that they have no intention of launching an outright takeover bid, their growing shareholding suggests they are interested in becoming more involved in the club. In 2016, Moshiri sold his Arsenal shares to Usmanov to raise capital to take over Everton Football Club.
This was completed in February 2016, when Moshiri purchased a 49.9% stake in Everton, which was increased to 94% in January 2022.
