early life
Favi belongs to Generation Z, having entered this world on May 3, 2004, just weeks before the Fourth Republic was established and former President Olusegun Obasanjo assumed office.
Born in southern Nigeria to Mr. Nicholas Chukwudi Ikemefuna and Mrs. Uche Emelda Ikemefuna, he was christened Favour Chinedu Chukwuedu Ikemefuna a few days after his birth in a joyous ceremony attended by family, friends and well-wishers. His name, Chinedu, means “God leads” in his native dialect.
An indigene of Delta State in the South-South geopolitical zone, Favi hails from the Igbo tribe and is familiar with the culture and traditions of his people – a fact confirmed by his parents.
Born and raised in the bustling city of Lagos, he spent his childhood and teenage years in a family that valued pious living and hard work. The Ikemefuna couple ensured that their son would develop good morals and a hardworking spirit in order to raise him into a responsible man.
The lessons learned while growing up inspired Favi to pursue his musical dreams later in life.
educate
A resident of Lagos State, Favi completed his primary and secondary education at top private schools in the Bariga area.
This is because his parents worked hard to ensure that he received a quality education. They also supported his dream of pursuing college.
After four years of study, he obtained a degree from the prestigious University of Benin in Edo State.
Profession
From infancy to adolescence in the early and mid-2000s, Favi was exposed to the colorful and evolving Nigerian music scene. Living in Lagos meant he was able to sample different genres of music, from Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, Highlife to African music.
From watching TV to listening to the radio, his ears were always filled with the latest songs from the country and the Western world. However, he developed a strong interest in rap music and he listened to it more. Therefore, when Trap music emerged globally, he fell in love with this music genre and immersed himself in it.
Unlike many of his friends, Falvey was not content to simply listen to other artists’ songs. His love for music was so strong that he was motivated to write his own songs. As a teenager, Falvey spent much of his free time writing rap songs with a notebook and pen. He started out singing these songs in the safety of his room, but he progressed to freestyling them in front of close friends and classmates, and then performing them in shows and concerts around campus.
During his undergraduate years, he frequented music studios near UNIBEN and soon became an accomplished rapper. Favi honed his rapping and songwriting skills every day and began recording his own songs. However, he was not satisfied with the quality of his work as he felt he could do better, so he did not promote these singles.
He pushed himself further and further, eventually recording his first official single at the studio of top studio engineer Spyritmyx. Targeting primarily the UNIBEN audience, Favi heavily promoted the song and it soon became a favourite among undergraduates on campus. It was no surprise, therefore, when the song made its way out of the university community and hit the streets of Benin City, where he received positive reviews from residents of the city.
In December 2021, Favi collaborated with artistes The Pride Of The South and Huloo to release a joint project titled Family Business. Since its release, the 3-track EP music project has become a sensation across the country, especially in Lagos. The project has received good airplay on major radio stations, expanding Favi’s fan base as more and more people now appreciate his outstanding artistry.
Due to the success of Family Business, Favi has received and been honored to receive multiple offers to perform across the country. This EP also lays the foundation for the young artist’s growth in the industry as he has a few upcoming projects in the pipeline.
Like other artists, Favi has role models, listing J Hus, Lil Wayne, Ycee, Drake, Royce da 5’9, etc. as artists he looks up to.
