Zazie Olivia Beetz was named after the character of the same name in Raymond Queneau’s novel Zazie dans le Métro.
She was born on June 1, 1991 in Berlin to a German father and an American mother.
Her father was a well-respected German cabinet member who emigrated to the United States in 1990 to seek asylum after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
