A Nigerian politician, businessman and administrator named Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is currently serving his second term as the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
In the March 2023 governorship election, he was declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the incumbent governor of Ebonyi State.

Early life
Mr. Nwifuru was born on 25th February 1975 in his hometown Oferekpe Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State,
The family of Chief and Lady Nwifuru Nwamkpu famously raised him in a polygamous household. Chief Uzoamaka Nwifuru was the wife of Lord Nwifuru.
The family has five children. In 1991, Hon. Nwifuru enrolled in Oferekpe Agbaja Community Primary School.
In 1999, due to his constant efforts in studying, he transferred to Nwofe Agbaja Community Secondary School.
His efforts to study were sometimes difficult. He only attended school occasionally and helped his brothers tend their father’s livestock.
However, his devoted mother, Okweru, played a key role in ensuring that his son received the necessary Western education. He completed his senior secondary education with distinction in May/June 2004.
After completing his post-primary education, Ogbonna, now known as “Pope Francis”, the person who has been baptized—the sacrament of initiation into the Catholic faith—has begun a new chapter in his life.
At that time, he moved away from his biological parents to live with Chief (Honorary) Boniface U. Ofoke was a man who devoted his life to teaching, investing and training others. He was also a pioneer in promoting Western education.

Career
His first foray into politics was in 2007 when he unsuccessfully ran for a seat in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly representing his constituency.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) then appointed him as an ex officio state executive member for Ebonyi State.
He tried again in March 2011 and was elected to the Ebonyi State House of Assembly to represent the Izzi West Constituency.
During that time, he also became Chairman of the House of Commons Land, Survey, Urban Development and Environment Committee and Deputy Chief Secretary.
He was re-elected in 2015, becoming the fifth Speaker of the Assembly. He was also re-elected in 2019 for the same positions, making him the only member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly to hold the Speakership twice.
He was elected in 2020 to serve as the National Vice Chairman of the South East Nigeria State Legislative Assembly. Nwifuru received a total of 199,131 votes from 13 local governments in the state to win the election as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Ebonyi governorship in 2023.
Argumentative
In March 2016, there were rumours that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arrested the governor-elect.
He has, however, denied the allegation. Nwifuru clarified that he only went to the EFCC South East Regional Office in Enugu upon invitation.
