Meet Bryan Christopher Kohberger, Suspect in Idaho Student Murder

Bryan Christopher Kohberger is believed to be a murder suspect in connection with the murder of four University of Idaho students who were stabbed to death in November 2022. Bryan is believed to be attending a nearby student body and lives a block away from where the victims were. The nucleus was found just a few miles away.

According to CNN, Bryan was arrested in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, on an active arrest warrant for first-degree murder issued by the Moscow, Idaho, Police Department and the Latah County Prosecutor’s Office, according to the criminal complaint.

After the suspect was revealed, people who knew Bryan also discussed him on Reddit. In a post that was deleted from Reddit after the arrest was made public, a DeSales University research-related investigation student named Bryan Kohberger sought to participate in a research project “to understand How do emotions and psychological characteristics affect decision making when committing a crime? ”

“Specifically, this study seeks to understand the story behind your most recent offense, with an emphasis on your thoughts and feelings throughout your experience,” the now-deleted Reddit post said.

Authorities asked the public for information earlier this month about a white 2011–2013 Hyundai Elantra that they said was “near” the crime scene at the time of the murder. Following that call, police have previously stated that multiple tips were taken. After tracing Bryan’s ownership of the Elantra, investigators eventually focused on him, according to two law enforcement sources briefed on the investigation.

Sources added that police believe Kohberger fled the area and traveled to Pennsylvania after the murder and his DNA matched that found at the crime scene.

Sources said the suspect had been followed by an FBI surveillance team in the area near where he was arrested for several days. According to a law enforcement source, Kohberger traveled across the country in the Elantra and landed at his parents’ home in Pennsylvania just before Christmas.

Bryan’s former classmate, Nick Mcloughlin, told the Daily Beast that he was “stunned” to see his old friend incarcerated. When Kohberger graduated his senior year, Mcloughlin remarked that he had “come down to Earth.” But Kohberger returned “thinner than a rail” by the start of his senior year, became “aggressive,” and began boxing.

Recalling how their friendship soured, Nick Mcloughlin added: ‘He always wanted to fight someone, he bullied everyone. We started cutting ties with him in our friend group because he was a completely different person.’

While prosecutors and detectives from the Moscow police department, Idaho State Police and the FBI tried to establish enough probable cause to issue an arrest warrant, authorities remained on Kohberger. According to law enforcement sources, authorities tracked Kohberger across the country and also kept an eye on his parents’ home.

“This is not the end of this investigation, in fact, this is a new beginning,” Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson said Friday. “Now that you all know the name of the person who has been charged with these crimes, let’s make that information public, let’s ask the public, anyone who knows about this individual, to come forward.”

“Please report anything you know about him,” Thompson added, “to help investigators, and ultimately our office and the court system, fully understand everything there is to know not only about individuals but also what happened and why”.
