Early life and education
Elisabeth Maxwell and Robert Maxwell welcomed Ghislaine Maxwell into the world on December 25, 1961, in Maisons-Laffitte, France. She had eight siblings: Christine Maxwell, Ian Maxwell, Kevin Maxwell, Isabel Maxwell, Michael Maxwell, Philip Maxwell, Karine Maxwell, and Ann Maxwell, with whom she grew up.
Most of her formative years were spent at Headington Hill Hall in Oxford, a historic estate that her father leased to Pergamon Press as offices and residences.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s mother, Elisabeth Maxwell, was a French scholar, and her father, Robert Maxwell, was an English media magnate and founder of the “Pergamon Press”. Her mother was a Huguenot, while her father came from a Jewish family.
Ghislaine Maxwell completed her education at Balliol College, University of Oxford after attending Headington School and Marlborough College.
Career
Ghislaine Maxwell was a director when her father ran Oxford United Football Club. She also founded a women’s group named after an English society called the Kit-Cat Club from the early eighteenth century.
According to Tom Bower of The Times, her father renamed his luxury motorboat Lady Mona K Lady Ghislaine in 1986 in tribute to Ghislaine Maxwell. According to The Scotsman, Robert Maxwell sent Ghislaine Maxwell a “tailored” business gift in New York. However, the business failed.
According to another report by The Times, she went to New York on November 5, 1990, to deliver an envelope on behalf of her father. However, she did not know that the envelope contained an elaborate scheme by her father to defraud Berlitz shareholders of US$200 million.
After her father bought the New York Daily News in January 1991, Ghislaine Maxwell was appointed his partner and agent. Then, in May 1991, they took the Concorde on a business trip to New York. With this trip, she began her journey to become one of New York’s most famous socialites.
After her father died in 1991, Ghislaine Maxwell dealt with the pension crisis while working at a real estate firm on Madison Avenue. At the time, she was often seen socializing with influential people.
On September 26, 2012, Ghislaine Maxwell founded the ocean conservation nonprofit The TerraMar Project during the Blue Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Conference in Monterey, California. After being convicted of participating in the sex trafficking scandal with Jeffrey Epstein, the organization was shut down in 2019.
While Lady Ghislaine was stationed in Tenerife in November 1991, the body of Ghislaine Maxwell’s father was found floating in the water near the Canary Islands. She quickly moved to Tenerife to become a business partner of Robert Maxwell.

Ted Waitt, founder of Gateway Computers, and Ghislaine Maxwell were dating. They split in early 2011. She also dated Jeffrey Epstein. She married Scott Borgerson in 2016. She has no children.
She moved into a 7,000-square-foot home on East 65th Street in 2000, not far from Jeffrey Epstein’s New York estate.
Ultimately, an unidentified limited liability company purchased the home for $4.95 million.
