Ilhan Abdullahi Omar was born on October 4, 1982, in Mogadishu, Somalia. She was raised by her parents, Noor Omar Mohammed and Faduma Abukar Haji Hussein, and is the youngest of seven siblings, including her older sister, Sarah Noor.
However, the names of her remaining five siblings are unknown.Omar attended Thomas Edison High School and graduated in 2001 as a student organizer.
