Her parents started dating while they were students at UT Knoxville in Atlanta. Kathryn’s mother shared a short story about her parents on Facebook, dedicated to Kathryn’s grandfather, Joe Dickerson Sr. She wrote, “Dating my husband (in Atlanta) after his UT Knoxville days meant that I didn’t know his family at all. When I visited Knoxville—overnight, of course—I found it helped me break the ice… I just jumped into whatever they were doing around the house and helped. That was how I connected and talked about things they were interested in like his workshop or her cooking or filling his bird feeder…etc.”

She continued, “One day Joe P. put his arm around me and said… “You know what I like about you? You’re a Doer! I like that.
