Early life
Jeannie Mai Jenkins was born in San Jose, California on January 4, 1979. She has Vietnamese and Chinese ancestors. James Mai, her father, is a Vietnamese immigrant, and Olivia Mai, her mother, is Chinese-American. James Jr. and John are Mai’s two brothers.
Mai grew up in San Jose and graduated from Milpitas High School. She participated in school activities such as drama, choir, and cheerleading. Mai went to De Anza College after graduating from high school to study communications.
Mai began her work as a beauty artist for MAC Cosmetics in 1999. She became a trainer and traveled around the world with celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys and Rosario Dawson. Mai has also done celebrity makeup for Total request Live, KCAL Los Angeles and MTV’s Good Day Sacramento.

Mai started her career as a makeup artist, working with superstars like Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys. She later hosted the Asian-American magazine-style show Stir on the International Channel. She was chosen to host the 2004 show How Do I Look? has helped people improve their appearance. The play was a huge success and Mai became known to many people.
Mai joined the cast of The Real, a daytime talk show about women’s lives, in 2013. The series achieved high ratings and Mai was praised for her wit and charm.
