Franca Obianuju Brown (born 17 May 1967) is a veteran Nollywood actress, producer, interior decorator, lawyer, entrepreneur and television personality.

She is especially famous for her role as “Mama Efe” in the popular television series titled “Behind the Clouds”, filmed in the late 80s. She is also known for her acting in films famous television series such as “Behind the Buka” and “River Between”, the latter of which won her an award at NIFEST in the late 80s.

Franca Brown is known to most movie enthusiasts for her role as an evil stepmother in films. She received the 2016 City People’s Film Special Recognition Award, presented at the City People’s Entertainment Awards.

Early life

Franca Brown was born on May 17, 1967 in Onitsha, Anambra state, southeastern Nigeria.

She lost her father when she was very young and was therefore placed under the guardianship of her uncle Eddy Brown and his wife, who cared for and trained her until adulthood, when she completed her education.

Her uncle, Eddy Brown, and his wife were attorneys and active legal practitioners. In an interview with the media, she revealed that her father died of a heart attack when she was very young.

Education

Franca Brown started elementary school at St. Mary in Onitsha, Anambra State. She moved to Abia State where she completed her primary education at St. Maria in Aba and received her first School Leaving Certificate.

For her secondary education, Franca Brown moved to Niger State, located in Northern Nigeria, to the Federal Government Girls College in New Bussa, Niger State, where she obtained her West African Secondary School Certificate.

Furthermore, in an effort to obtain a B.Sc. degree, Franca Brown applied to Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State and was accepted and eventually graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Law.

She then pursued a second degree and applied to the University of Jos in Plateau State, where she was accepted and eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Theater Arts and a master’s degree in Law.

Career

Franca Brown’s acting career was recognized for her role in the television series titled “Behind The Clouds”, although she appeared twice as a guest. Before appearing in “Behind The Clouds”, a television series, she failed to establish herself in the Nigerian film industry and mainly took up acting roles in short stage plays.

On one such stage play called “Swam Karagbe”, written by Iyorchia Ayu, three Nigerian talent scouts, Peter Igho, Matt Dadzie and Ene Oloja, were among the audience looking for Find new talent to appear in a television series.

After the play ended, Franca Brown revealed in an interview that she was approached by three talent scouts and asked to audition, which she eventually did. She was given the role of Mama Nosa in a television series titled “Behind The Clouds”.
