Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (born November 20, 1942) is an American lawyer and politician who is currently serving as the 46th President of the United States. He is affectionately known as Joe Biden.

He took office on January 20, 2021, after winning the December 2021 election. A member of the Democratic Party, Joe Biden served as a Senator representing Delaware in the United States Senate from 1973 to 2009.

He was elected Vice President of the United States in December 2008. He served under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017.

Early life

Joe Biden was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on November 20, 1942. He is 81 years old, born at St. Mary’s Hospital to Joseph R. Biden Sr. and Catherine Eugenia Finnegan.

In 1968, Joe Biden first worked at the Wilmington Law Firm as a clerk after graduating from law school. After being admitted to the Delaware Bar, he first worked as a public defender before moving to a firm owned by a Democrat. He and a colleague then founded their own law firm, where he handled primarily criminal cases. He became a Democrat in 1969.

He was first elected to public office in 1971 when he ran for the District 4 seat on the New Castle County Council. He won and served for two years, from 1971 to 1973.

In 1972, he ran for the United States Senate as a junior senator representing Delaware. He won with 50.5 percent of the vote, defeating Republican candidate J. Caleb Boggs.

Joe Biden was just 23 years old when he married his first wife, Neilia Hunter, in August 1966. Their marriage produced three children: Beau Biden (born 1969), Hunter Biden (born 1970), and Naomi Christina Biden (born 1971).

Neilia Hunter was in a fatal car accident in December 1972 when her car was hit by a tractor-trailer. Neilia Hunter was driving home from Christmas shopping with her children in the car.
