Early Life & Education
Hajia Nana Shettima, the second lady, was born in Kano State on 2 July 1975. Her father, Alhaji Usman Alkali, was a Kanuri from Borno State, and her mother’s name was Hajiya Maryam Abubakar Albashir. She is her father’s third child.
Nana Shettima started school early, attending a school Islamic school in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state. Then she joined Lamisula Primary School 1 in Maiduguri, where she received her first school leaving certificate in 1988.
After primary school, Nana Shettima attended school Government Girls College, Maiduguri, where she completed her secondary education in 1993. She then studied English Language and Literature at the school. University of Maidugurigraduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in 2006.
Career
With the tenacious support of her husband, Hajiya Nana Shettima embarked on a philanthropic mission to help orphans and widows. In 2018, she founded The school integrates a model orphanage in Maiduguri, providing comfort and care to those who have experienced loss in Borno State.
Fearless and undeterred by security reports, Nana Shettima journeyed to Chibok to console the parents of the kidnapped schoolgirls, providing them with much-needed emotional support, even when paid the price of missing the meeting with the first lady in Abuja.
As the first lady of Borno state, Nana Shettima actively participated in humanitarian initiatives. She was established SWOT Foundation in 2012, empowering widows and orphans. In addition, she also founded The school integrates a model orphanageprovides free education for disadvantaged children.
Nana Shettima’s influential advocacy extended to fighting for the rights of women and children, against crimes such as rape, sex trafficking and drug abuse. As a distinguished member of the National Council for Women’s Development, her dedication is to create a society of equality and happiness for all.
