Michael Thomas Berthold and Laura Campbell were born Kate McKinnon Berthold on January 6, 1984.
She was born in the New York town of Sea Cliff on Long Island and she has a younger sister named Emily Lynne Berthold.
Their father, Michael, died when she was eighteen, and the sisters were both raised in Sea Cliff.
Education
Kate McKinnon graduated from North Shore High School in 2002 and went on to study theater at Columbia University. She co-founded Tea Party, a musical improv comedy group, while at Columbia.
She is a member of Prangstgrüp, a university prank group that plans and records elaborate pranks. Kate McKinnon appeared in two Varsity Shows before graduating in 2006.
