Kate Middleton attended Remembrance Day to perform public service

LONDON: Britain’s Kate Middleton attended a Remembrance Day event in London on Saturday, in her latest public appearance after undergoing preventative cancer treatment this year.

Kate Middleton attended the Festival of Remembrance at London’s Royal Albert Hall wearing a black dress emblazoned with a red poppy, a dress that has become a symbol of respect for those who have died in conflict.

She was accompanied by her husband William and other members of the royal family and was soon followed by King Charles, whose wife Queen Camilla broke off their engagement as she recovered from a chest infection.

The Princess of Wales said in September that she had finished her chemotherapy, but her road to full recovery would be a long one. At the time, the 42-year-old said she would do some public activities later this year.

Her last public appearance was in October when she met the bereaved families of three young girls murdered at a dance class in northwest England.

Kate is also expected to attend the main Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday, Buckingham Palace said on Friday.

The ceremony at the Cenotaph war memorial is held on the Sunday closest to November 11 to mark the end of World War I and to commemorate those who died in the conflict.

The palace said Camilla hopes to return to public duties early next week. She withdrew from planned appointments this week after doctors advised her to rest for a while. She will celebrate Remembrance Day privately at home, the palace added.
