King Gayle defends Justin Timberlake in ‘stupid’ DWI arrest after Britney Spears

Justin Timberlake’s arrest in Sag Harbor, New York, has sparked a deeper conversation among celebrities. CBS Mornings host Gayle King defended Timberlake, who has been under constant scrutiny online.

“Justin Timberlake is a really great guy,” King pointed out. “Look, this was clearly a mistake. I bet no one knows that more than him.”

Although King described this as a “stupid” mistake, she emphasized that Timberlake is “not the irresponsible”, “reckless” or “careless” type of person.

King also emphasized the importance of responsible decision-making, emphasizing that there is “never any reason to” drive drunk. He urged individuals to take proactive steps such as calling a taxi, reaching out to friends or using a ride-hailing service if they or someone they know is ever in a similar situation.

Notably, Timberlake’s legal troubles arose when he was arrested for drunk driving in Sag Harbor, New York, on June 18, 2024.

“[Timberlake] went out to dinner with friends and police cars were stationed outside the restaurant like most other nights,” an insider told The Daily Mail. “They looked for people leaving after midnight and possibly drank alcohol.”

He was charged with driving while intoxicated and charged with two traffic violations. The singer was finally released without bail on Tuesday morning.

Although Timberlake asserted that he only drank one martini, the complaint listed him as “unable to divide his attention,” “slowly speaking,” “unsteady on his feet and even” performing poor on all standardized field sobriety tests.

After his arrest, Timberlake’s ex-girlfriend, Britney Spears, posted on Instagram a photo of herself enjoying an alcoholic beverage and a video of her feeling her “first cocktail dress.”

“It’s the little things you know,” she captioned a photo of herself sipping what many would consider a cocktail.

A witness told The New York Post that the singer sipped someone else’s cocktail before leaving the American Hotel in Sag Harbor.

“He got wasted. At one point, right before closing, someone got up to go into the bathroom and left his drink on the table,” the witness recalled. “When [the man] come back, [Timberlake] drinking his drink. The guy said, ‘Justin, that’s my drink!'”
