Céline Dion stunned a Canadian crowd in Montreal in poor health

While being treated for Stiff Person Syndrome, Céline Dion stunned the Montreal Canadiens crowd at the 2024 Upper Deck NHL Draft, held at the Sphere in Las Vegas on June 28, 2024.

As the team’s “No. 1 fan,” Dion helped announce the Canadien’s fifth-round pick.

Wearing a simple V-neck white dress, the singer held the hand of her eldest son René-Charles Angélil.

“I am so happy. [I’m] “Not even a hockey mom,” she quipped before announcing the team’s first pick.

This isn’t Dion’s first time meeting the Montreal Canadiens. Previously, when she was still hidden from the media, she was spotted taking pictures with them and watching their previous matches.

She was spotted at the National Hockey League game between the Vegas Golden Knights and her hometown team, the Montreal Canadiens, on October 30, 2023, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dion, who Page Six described as “in great spirits,” came into the locker room after the game and greeted everyone. She also chatted with people despite her poor health.

She was accompanied by his sons, René-Charles, and twins Eddy and Nelson.

This was Céline Dion’s first public appearance in nearly four years, the newspaper reported at the time. A few days later, Dion was spotted watching Katy Perry’s “Play” concert at the Las Vegas Residency, at Resorts World in Las Vegas, Uproxx reported.

Dion was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome. According to the Mayo Clinic, Céline Dion’s Stiff Person Syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that causes severe, progressive muscle stiffness and spasms in the lower limbs and back.

Sharing more about his illness, Dion documented his journey to Hoda Kotb today.

“I chose to work with my whole body and soul, from head to toe, with the medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again,” Dion shared.

After experiencing symptoms of Stiff Person Syndrome, Dion confessed to Kotb that she had to modify her voice in order to perform.

“I would get on stage and start speaking more nasally,” she recalls of one of her earlier performances. “I would say, ‘That was a little cold to start,’ or ‘This is the third show in a row.’ ‘You’re working too hard.’ But the thing is, it was different. I started feeling more stiff in my body.”

Dion also revealed her vulnerability in the Amazon Prime Video documentary, I Am Céline Dion, where she spoke about her disease, her struggles, and her road to treatment.
