Kristen Mary Jenner (born October 5, 1949), known professionally as Kris Jenner or Kris Houghton, is an American media personality, socialite, and businesswoman. She rose to fame after appearing on the reality television series Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which aired on E! from 2007 to 2021. Kris Jenner has also appeared in the spin-off shows Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami, Khloé & Lamar, and I Am Cait.
In addition to her television appearances, Kris Jenner has launched several business ventures, including a cosmetics line, a clothing line, and a book. She is also involved in various charitable causes.

Early life and education
Kris Jenner was born in San Diego, California, on November 5, 1955, the eldest of two children of Mary Jo Campbell, a children’s clothing store owner, and Robert Houghton, an engineer.
When she was seven years old, Mary Jo Campbell and Robert Houghton divorced, and she and her younger sister Karen Houghton were raised by their mother. Mary Jo Campbell eventually remarried businessman Harry Shannon, who helped raise her and Karen Houghton. Through her mother Kris Jenner’s marriage to Harry Shannon, she gained an additional half-brother, Steve Shannon.
Three months after moving to Oxnard, California, Harry Shannon’s business partner reportedly left with all of the company’s capital, so the family moved back to San Diego. In San Diego, Kris Jenner worked at Shannon & Company, a children’s clothing store owned by her mother.
Kris Jenner attended Clairemont High School and graduated in 1973. In 1975, she lost her biological father, Robert Houghton, in a car accident when she was nineteen years old. She worked for American Airlines as a flight attendant for a year in 1976.
Personal life
On July 8, 1978, Kris Jenner married attorney Robert Kardashian (who later became famous for being OJ Simpson’s first legal representative). Their family of four included daughters Kourtney Kardashian (born 1979), Kim Kardashian (born 1980), and Khloé Kardashian (born 1984), as well as son Rob Kardashian (born 1987). Although they separated in March 1991, they remained close friends until his death in 2003 from esophageal cancer.
Kris Jenner admitted to having an affair with former football player and animator Todd Waterman in 2012. She was married to Robert Kardashian at the time. In her memoir, she calls Todd Waterman “Ryan,” but he has told her the real him. They met while Kris Jenner was learning how to play tennis on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
A month after her divorce from Robert Kardashian in April 1991, Kris Jenner married retired Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner, better known as Caitlyn Jenner. In 2015, Bruce Jenner came out as a transgender woman and changed her name to Caitlyn Jenner.
They have two daughters: Kendall Jenner, born in 1995, and Kylie Jenner, born in 1997. In her autobiography, Kris Jenner wrote that she named her daughter Kendall Nicole after Nicole Brown Simpson, who died in 1994. Kris Jenner had four children from her marriage to Bruce Jenner: Burt Jenner, Cassandra Marino, Brandon Jenner, and Brody Jenner.
In October 2013, The Jenners announced they were splitting up, and on September 22, 2014, Kris Jenner filed for divorce, saying they could no longer live together. The divorce was finalized on March 23, 2015, as state law requires it to last six months.
Kris Jenner described her breakup with Caitlyn Jenner as “the most passive-aggressive thing”, saying that although she knew Caitlyn Jenner was using hormones in the 1980s, “there was no issue of gender. No one ever brought up the issue of gender”. Career
Kris Jenner met with Ryan Seacrest in 2007 to discuss having her family star in a reality TV show. Ryan Seacrest, who has his own production company, decided to develop the idea, with his popular family TV show The Osbournes in mind.
Eventually, the cable channel E! picked up the show and Kris Jenner became an executive producer on the show. The show follows the personal and professional lives of the Kardashian and Jenner families.
The show’s first episode aired on October 14, 2007, and is currently one of the longest-running reality television shows. On March 26, 2020, the 18th season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians began.
Kris Jenner has her own production company, Jenner Communications, based in Los Angeles. Since before Keeping Up with the Kardashians debuted, she has overseen the careers of Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and Kylie Jenner. She also helps her other daughter and son run their businesses.
Kris Jenner and her eldest daughter, Kourtney Kardashian, opened a children’s store in 2004. The store was called Smooch and operated for about six years before closing in 2009.
