Early Life & Education
Lil Kesh was born and raised in Bariga, a place located in Lagos state, Nigeria. He was born on March 17, 1995 and hails from Osun State, Western Nigeria. He is from the Yoruba tribe.
He has an older brother named Keshinro Pelumi and he was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Keshinro.
He grew up with a love for music. He would sing for his friends at school and perform at local competitions. His parents were aware of his talent and supported him all the time.
Lil Kesh attended Stockbridge College for primary and secondary school before attending the prestigious University of Lagos (Unilag), where he studied Linguistics.
He then enrolled at the National Open University, Nigeria, where he studied Mass Communication online.
Career
Lil Kesh started his music career in 2012 when he rapped with his Bariga colleagues. Soon after, he released a debut single titled Lyrical. The song has spread to all corners of Nigerian universities.
After that, he signed a record-breaking contract called Yahoo Boy No Laptop Nation or commonly known as YBNL Nation. YBNL is an independent record label founded by Nigerian rapper Olamide in 2012.
Under this label, Lil Kesh released a series of hit singles such as Shoki, Gbese, Efejoku, Last Card, etc., and released his debut studio album, YAGI.
Then, in 2014, he released a hit single titled Shoki. Shoki topped several music charts and catapulted this superstar musician to fame. As a result of this music production, he earned several nominations for awards but won two.
In 2015, Lil Kesh was nominated for Best New Act at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Then in 2016, after signing with YBNL, he founded his own record label called YAGI Records (short for Young And Getting It).
The label is managed by an event management and marketing company, Massive Management Team.
On March 17, 2016, Lil Kesh released his debut studio album titled Young And Getting It (YAGI) through YBNL Nation. The song was produced by Young John and Pheelz Vocals from Ycee, Phyno, Wale, Adekunle Gold, Patoranking, Viktoh, Olamide, Davido and Chinko Ekun. It combines the hip hop and rap genres.
It includes four singles – Lyrics, Efejoku, Is It Because I Love You and Ibile.
Lil Kesh’s versatility and musical style is quite similar to Olamide, who raps and sings in his local dialect (Yoruba). However, Lil Kesh has been criticized for using too much profanity and not finding the right balance in his lyrics.
