Lil Mama Slams Nicki Minaj for Breeding ‘Musical Prostitutes’ Like Sexyy Redd, Ice Spice

Lil Mama has some words for Rap Queen Nicki Minaj after watching the 2024 BET Awards.

In an Instagram post, rapper De-1 called on BET Network and the BET Awards to “do better as a ‘culture.'”

“I’m being honest… Deep down, most of the executives, fans, and artists know we can do better. We just need to have the courage to do it,” the rapper wrote, noting the show’s pervasive “sex rap.”

Lil Mama made no secret of her comments, noting that BET Network also gave Nicki Minaj one of the night’s top awards.

“Then give Nicki an award for leading this group. Corporate ‘BARS’ would be beyond our comprehension. They’d be laughing at us for sure!” Lil Mama commented, eventually sparking a heated conversation in the comments.

Dee-1 agreed with Lil Mama’s assessment saying, “truth! I thank God you’re different and I always support you.”

One fan defended Minaj, citing Lil Kim as an inspiration to them. Lil Mama didn’t back down, explaining how Minaj inspired them after being inspired by Lil Kim.

“keyword… THIS pack. These young girls are not influenced by. Kim. Nicki is influenced by Kim. These girls are 23 years old. What major music prostitutes do you remember from the last 15 years,” Lil Mama wrote in response. “You think they looked at what company gave a platform and flowers for cutting. Be honest. Like I said, they were laughing at us and the prize was ‘thank you, we have 7,8,9 of them now.'”

As the debate continues, Lil Mama reflected on the current female rap scene.

“I agree there [were] definitely choice[s] on style and content [in the past]”, the “Lip Gloss” rapper noted. “It’s all love, God is the greatest, and these women are gonna wake up and realize they’re worth more than any price tag. Sometimes we can’t see ourselves. We’re just living… so I can [understand] How can this happen and feel normal?”

Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Sexyy Red, GloRilla, Doechii, and Ice Spice all performed at the 2024 BET Awards — all of whom have reportedly been inspired by Minaj at some point in their careers.
