Mandy Moore has responded to critics who questioned her decision to share a GoFundMe for her in-laws, who lost everything in the devastating Eaton fire.
The actress and singer shared the fundraising campaign on Instagram, explaining that her brother-in-law, Griff, and his wife, Kit, are expecting their first child in just a few weeks and need help building rebuild your life.
“Yesterday, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law Griff & Kit lost their home and everything they owned in the Eaton fire,” Moore wrote in his post. “Griff was a touring musician and also lost his entire drum/percussion arsenal that he used to make a living.”
The Eaton Fire, one of many wildfires that devastated Los Angeles, destroyed many homes and left many families struggling to recover.
Moore’s main home narrowly escaped most of the destruction, although parts of it, including the home studio of her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, were lost. (Goldsmith fronted the rock band Dawes.)

In her post, Moore addressed trolls who accused her of not personally supporting her family.
“People who question whether we are helping our own families or allocating an arbitrary amount of money that Google says someone has are NOT helpful or empathetic,” she wrote.
“Of course I do,” Moore added. “We also just lost most of our lives in a fire. Please TURN OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”
Organized by a family friend, the GoFundMe aims to help Griff and Kit rebuild. Moore said she shared the link because people asked how they could support their families during this difficult time.

The wildfires have sparked widespread concern in Southern California, with at least 35,000 acres burned and 10 people killed so far.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, several celebrities such as Henry Winkler and Chris Brown have speculated about arson.
Moore’s emotional plea shed light on the personal toll the fire took on her family and community. “We love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuild and provide support,” she shared in an earlier update.
