Early life

Mayihlome Tshwete was born on the 10th day of December 1982 to Steve Tshwete and Pamela MaMzangwa.

His parents were active voices in the fight against apartheid in South Africa. His father was a member of the African National Congress and he was also a member who was greatly influenced by his father.

He grew up with two younger siblings, older brother Lindela Tshwete and younger sister Yonda Tshwete. His father had a close relationship with Nelson Mandela and both spent time in Robben Island prison during apartheid.

After his father’s death in 2002, Nelson Mandela sponsored his studies. His mother, Pamela Tshwete, is a politician and is currently Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation in South Africa.
