Meet Kim Varhola, Wife of Michael K Lee

Kim Varhola and Michael K Lee have been a couple for more than 15 years but the fire of love is still burning strong.

“My wife is a Rock Star. Well, more specifically… a Music Star. One year as a professor and she was invited to be a Speaker at the renowned Alliance of Musical Theater Educators conference in San Diego,” Michael boasted of his wife’s achievements on his FB. “Let’s deal with it, Professor Varhola!!! (Congratulations to the other panelists and speakers at the event. Thank you for your work for our community!)”

Regarding their children, Kim and Michael share two children named Jesse and Jude. They welcomed Jesse in January 2009 and Jude in November 2011.

The last time we saw Michael, he was busy filming XO, Kitty as Professor Lee. Previously, the actor starred in Vanishing (2021) as Henry’s Father, A Korean Odyssey (2018) as Jonathan and Law & Order (2016) as Craig.

In addition, he also starred in many productions in Seoul, including Jesus Christ Superstar (Jesus), Miss Saigon (Chris), Queen of the Desert (Tick), Notre Dame de Paris (Gringoire), Amour (Dusoleil ) and Gone with the Wind (Ashley) and more.

Kim Varhola is a Theater Marketing Specialist. To date, she has held the position of “Director of Marketing, Events and Partnerships” at Center Theater Group from March 2008 to November 2012, as “Corporate/Organizational Director ” at the Village Theater from May 2007 to February 2008 and in Broadway Cares/Equity Fighting AIDS Events from 2004 to 2007.

Additionally, like her husband, she is also passionate about acting. As a performer, she has appeared on Broadway in Children and Art, Pacific Overtures, Flower Drum Song, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes and Rent.

On top of that, she’s also Michael’s acting coach! “I have an acting coach named Kim Varhola,” the Kitty XO star explains. “She studied theater at Northwestern University and she helps me stay honest, grounded and real on stage. I implicitly trust her.”

Michael K. Lee is a first-generation Korean-American stage actor and singer who began his acting career as part of a sketch comedy, a cappella group called The Fleet Street Singers while in college. However, to follow in his father’s footsteps, Michael was studying to become a psychiatrist when he got his first professional acting job.

After landing his first professional role, Michael tried and succeeded after three rounds of auditions for the blockbuster Broadway musical “Miss Saigon”, the first musical that won 11 Tony Award nominations and brought home three awards.

Michael recalls: “My first role was Vietnam Commissioner Thuy. “I am extremely excited to be a part of that entertainment group. The fact that it was my first job out of college is something I don’t take for granted. It was like a trial by fire – sent straight to the big leagues without too much preparation.”

Kim Varhola loves her family; especially her parents to the moon. Her parents even loved her society and were good grandparents to her children.

Her mother, Cindy Varhola, graduated from Seoul National University High School and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. Sadly, we know nothing about her father.

Additionally, Kim was close to her grandmother Helen M. Varhola, who passed away on March 16, 2021. She was 98 years old when she joined her late husband Andrew in heaven.

Helen was a Pittsburgh native who moved to the Harrisburg area in the 1950s. As a young mother, Helen devoted her life to her sons’ work, accompanying them through their childhood years in the world of professional music entertainment. She then worked for the PA Department of Labor and Industry, and after 30 years of service, she retired to Carlisle to be closer to family.
