Miley Cyrus is making it clear that she cannot take all responsibility for her past actions, including her controversial performance at the Teen Choice Awards in 2009.
During the performance, Miley sang “Party in the USA” while dancing along a metal pole attached to an ice cream truck, sparking criticism at the time. Now Miley is revealing the real mastermind behind this moment: her mother, Tish Cyrus.
Chat with Brandi Cyrus’ sister on Spotify’s Billionaire club series on November 22, Miley asked: “Do you know whose idea it was?” When Brandi guessed their mother, Miley smiled and confirmed: “Yes, that was my mother’s idea. She always puts me in charge.”
Miley recalled how Tish was noticeably absent when the backlash happened: “When I got in trouble the next day, do you know who was nowhere to be found? Tish Cyrus.”
Despite the controversy, Miley shared another standout memory from that night: wearing real diamond jewelry on stage for the first time.
