Early life and education
Nyesom Wike, a man of many talents, was born on a rather auspicious day, December 13, 1967, in the picturesque town of Obio-Akpor in Nigeria. His father, Nlemanya Wike, was a prominent Nigerian businessman and an evangelical pastor.
A true descendant of his father, he received his formative education at Eneka Public Secondary School in Obiakpor, and pursued his Bachelor of Laws degree at the prestigious Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUT).
Always a studious lad, Nyesom Wike earned a Master of Arts in Political and Administrative Studies from the same institution. But his academic achievements are just a small part of his impressive story.
In 2020, his father, Nlemanya Wike, made headlines when he was attacked by some robbers with explosives. However, the brave efforts of the police led to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, is a happily married man. His beautiful wife is a judge of the Rivers State High Court of Justice and her name is Eberechi Wike. This gorgeous lady is of Igbo origin and the couple met while they were studying at the university.
They exchanged their wedding vows in 1999 and have been inseparable ever since. However, the couple waited until the late 2000s to start a family. They now have three lovely children – two boys and a girl. The boys are Jordan Wike and Joaquin Wike, while their adorable daughter is named Jazmyne Wike.
Eberechi Wike has been the First Lady of Rivers State since her husband assumed office in 2015. She is known for her calmness, beauty and exceptional intellect. The Wike family remains a symbol of love, unity and strong bonds that have stood the test of time.
Career
Nyesom Wike’s political career began in 1999 when he was appointed Executive Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers. His impressive tenure in the position brought him wide recognition and paved the way for further important political roles.
In July 2011, Nyesom Wike received a high honour when President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan appointed him as Minister of Education, a position he held until his promotion to Federal Minister of Education in September 2013. However, his political ambitions were not yet satisfied with this achievement, so he resigned as Federal Minister to contest the 2015 governorship election in Rivers State.
Nyesom Wike’s election as Governor of Rivers State has had its challenges. On 13 May 2015, the Rivers State Electoral Tribunal, based in Abuja, heard a petition challenging his election, in which he evaded court summons and other processes. However, his popularity and support from the constituency ensured that he won, and he has since made it his mission to initiate several development projects aimed at turning Rivers State into a leading commercial and tourist hub.
One of the most notable policy changes Nyesom Wike made during his tenure was the declaration of free public primary and secondary education in the state, a move that drew both praise and criticism.
