Survival depends on intelligent resource management and vehicle maintenance, which can be achieved in the player’s garage, which also serves as their main hub. Repair tasks range from simple repairs, such as changing a tire, to more complex jobs that require finding tools and resources around you.

Weather conditions can affect vehicle handling, adding an extra layer of difficulty. Players face challenges such as metal monsters attacking their cars, electrical anomalies, and obstacles that damage electronic devices.

Exploration is crucial, yielding crafting recipes, blueprints, and resources that can be used to upgrade vehicles and increase your chances of survival. Interactions with non-player characters, discovery notes, and audio logs contribute to the narrative and exploration of escape zones.

Dynamic gameplay requires collecting power cores to unlock the door back to the garage, while dealing with the environment’s escalating hostility. Pacific Avenue offers an immersive and challenging survival experience in a unique and dangerous world.

Lead designer Seth Rosen’s goal was to free the gameplay from frustrating survival clichés and tedious inventory management. Instead, inspired by games like Spelunky, we focused on creating enemies with simple yet intimidating behaviors and introducing world randomization to add excitement.

The game was announced at PlayStation’s State of Play event in 2022 and was originally planned for release in 2023. However, a partnership with Kepler Interactive resulted in a delay to early 2024, providing additional time for development. Powered by Unreal Engine 4, Pacific Drive promises an immersive journey through a challenging landscape, emphasizing the connection between players and their vehicles in a survival challenge.
