Presley Chweneyagae’s interest in acting began at a young age.
He was born on October 19, 1984 in Mafeking, northwest South Africa.
He was born and raised in apartheid South Africa. He is 39 years old.
Presley Chweneyagae grew up in a time when the country was marginalized by harsh laws that denied black people almost any political rights and made it impossible for the black majority to govern the white minority.
Growing up was quite difficult for Presley Chaniga, as black people in South Africa were confined to homesteads or townships near major cities, where they lived a horrible, almost medieval existence and had to carry a pass or identity card with them at all times and show it when needed.
South African law during the apartheid era also allowed for indefinite imprisonment without charge or trial. However, when Presley Chaniega was 10 years old, apartheid was finally abolished and South Africa held its first free elections.

Presley Chaniega began exploring his acting potential by appearing in plays and community theatre productions. While he has appeared in numerous shows with the Mmabana Arts Foundation (formerly known as Northwest Arts), he has also played the role of “Parker” in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Solitaire at the Grahamstown Arts Festival.
In 2000, Presley Chaniega made his television debut in the SABC TV show Orlando. In 2006, he made his television debut in the mini-series When We Were Black. He played the role of a poet; in the fifth season of 90 Plein Street, he played the role of Andile Grootboom. He also played the role of Detective Moloko in the first season of Thula’s Vine.
Presley Chuuniaga became a global celebrity after his role in the 2006 Oscar-winning film Gangsters.
