Raul Malo Health Update: Mavericks Leader Diagnosed With Cancer

Raul Malo, widely known as the frontman of the popular country music group Mavericks, shared heartbreaking news with fans, confirming that he is struggling with a health condition.

On the team’s official Instagram account, Malo shared a video of himself saying he had abnormal results during a routine health check. After a colonoscopy, he was confirmed to have “two spots of cancer” in his intestinal system.

“The doctors all agreed that I start therapy after the Fourth of July,” he revealed, adding that the chemotherapy he will undergo is the least invasive of them all.

Malo also assured him that the medical team had told him that many patients continued to work even while they were still being treated.

Regardless, he told his supporters that his health condition could affect their upcoming concerts, saying: “Some shows may be affected.” benefit this year as we work through this situation and see how therapy goes.”

One of the reasons he went public with his health condition was to tell his fans how his performances would be affected, but he also wanted to ask them to take care of their health.

“Go see a doctor. Be proactive in taking care of your health. That will help you fight any disease… Stay healthy, take care of yourself and I’ll see you on the road,” he said. added.

In a statement shared with Billboard, Malo expressed similar sentiments, advising his fans to see a doctor for a checkup if they feel like something is wrong.

“I share this message in the spirit of transparency and honesty, because you have all stuck with us through 35 crazy years of music, shows, breaking up and getting back together – we’ve even been through a pandemic together,” he said, adding that he will get through this difficult period in his life just like he has in the past.

“I’m not going anywhere and I’ll see you on the road soon,” he assured his followers.

Earlier this year, Mavericks released their latest album, Moon & Stars, and went on the road to perform their new songs. However, due to Malo’s health issues, several shows were canceled or postponed, including their shows in Aspen and Steamboat Springs on July 12 and 14.

On the other hand, their show in Denver on July 13 has been rescheduled to August 25.
