Serj Tankian Says He ‘Doesn’t Respect’ Fantasy Dragons – Here’s Why

Serj Tankian has expressed his true feelings about the band Imagine Dragons, revealing that he has “no respect” for them. However, it’s not about their music.

It all started when the leader of System of a Down contacted the group and asked them not to continue with their concert in Azerbaijan. The musician actively expressed his thoughts about artists considering performing in certain countries.

He wrote a letter to Imagine Dragons in an attempt to educate them about Azerbaijan’s brutality and that competing in the country would only “whitewash” the regime’s image.

“As the humanitarian crisis worsens in Nagorno-Karabagh with famine being reported, I am forced to make public this letter and their disregard for this humanitarian disaster. Maybe they feel seeing themselves as legally responsible for performing the show, maybe they just don’t care,” Tankian said publicly at the time.

Unfortunately, the group never responded and continued their performance.

More recently, in an interview with Metal Hammer, Tankian expressed his disappointment in the group, stating that he did not know them or understand their way of thinking.

He further explained that he understands that people who play in other countries do it for money and to express their artistry. However, he felt disappointed that they were willing to perform in a country where the government was committed to ethnic cleansing.

“I don’t know what to say about those artists. I don’t respect them as human beings. Their art, they’re not good human beings, as far as I’m concerned,” he added.

Tankian noted that if a certain band performed in that country, he wouldn’t know what to say to them as a person.

“I don’t even care about your music. If you were a bad human being, I wouldn’t care. So that’s my opinion on it. I don’t respect those guys,” he said. he said.

Later in the interview, Tankian explained that he decided to speak out about his country’s brutality not because of his ego but because he wanted to make a positive change.

He noted that he warned the band for their own good and “their own morals”.

As of this writing, no member of Image Dragons has yet commented on the matter.
