Celine Dion had to lower her singing voice when suffering from symptoms of Rigid Person Syndrome

Celine Dion has revealed how much she has been through since being diagnosed with Rigid Person Syndrome.

During an emotional interview with Hoda Kotb, Dion tearfully recalled the moment she decided to adjust her voice to continue singing.

She recalls one of her previous performances: “I got on stage and started sounding more nasal. “I might say, ‘It’s off to a cold start’ or ‘This is the third show in a row.’ ‘You’re working too hard.’ But the problem is, I started to feel more stiff.”

Dion revealed that as early as her Take Chances World Tour in 2008, she began experiencing symptoms of this syndrome.

“I told my assistants and people, ‘I don’t know if I can do the show,’” she recalls. “I was very, very, very scared. And then you panic, and the more you panic, the more you spasm.”

She also revealed that she had to sing in a different voice to compensate.

“We lowered the songs a bit with the keys,” Dion shares. “I tried my best because my fans accepted my invitation and I didn’t know what to say to them. ‘Will I do my best tonight?’ Are not. You either do your best or you don’t come.”

Dion details how the performance went and then the contractions hit. According to her, it feels like “someone is choking you. Like someone is pushing on your larynx/throat.”

The “It’s All Coming Back To Me” singer will give her loyal fans an exclusive look at her emotional health journey in an upcoming Prime Video documentary I am: Céline Dion.

In May 2024, Kotb teased what fans could expect during her interview with Dion.

“Céline Dion at some point — she’s much better now — but at some point, she almost died,” Kotb claimed, when questioned by E! Online news. “It stunned and moved me – I couldn’t believe what they were able to capture in that documentary.”
