Early life and education
Shehu Sani was born on October 29, 1967, in Tudun Wada Kaduna South, Kaduna State, Nigeria. He was raised by his parents, his mother’s name is Fatima Abubakar Sani. His father’s name is unknown, although he is known as Mr. Sani.
Sani’s father worked as a production manager. He may have grown up with siblings, but the media does not know their names. Sani received his early education at the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) in Badarawa Kaduna from 1975 to 1980.

Shehu Sani began his career as an activist and trade unionist. While studying at Kaduna Polytechnic, he served as Chairman of the Central Mobilization Committee of the Pan-African Students’ Organization and President of the African Democratic Youth Congress.
Sani comes from a middle-class Nigerian family, with his father being a production manager. He was educated in England and Germany and worked for the pro-Northern newspaper New Nigerian for 30 years. He also served as a government printer for Sokoto State from 1976-1979.
During the Obasanjo administration, Sani held a number of prestigious positions, including membership in the African Union Peer Review Mechanism, the United Nations Reform Commission, and several presidential commissions on prison reform, conflict resolution, and the oil industry.
Sani has a large literary body of work, authoring works such as “Killing Fields”, “Poverty in Northern Nigeria” and “Scorpion under Pillow”.
In 2015, Sani was elected to the Nigerian Senate and became the first senator to publicly declare his assets.
He later resigned from the ruling APC party in 2018 to join the People’s Redemption Party (PRP). During his time in the Senate, he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Internal and External Debt and Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.
