Simon Cowell reveals Harry Styles’ surprising reaction to recent criticism of One Direction

Harry Styles has reportedly contacted Simon Cowell following the recent controversy surrounding the ownership of the band name One Direction.

Fans were surprised when the music mogul admitted regret at handing over the rights to the band’s name, citing concerns about earnings.

“That’s the thing, I could do cartoons or whatever but when you name an artist, it’s not your name and that’s the only thing I regret,” Cowell said.

“So if you’re listening, I’ll buy it back from you. But that’s the only thing I regret. If one of the band members, for some reason, says they don’t want to tour, that might stop the others from touring, so if I’m the one who owns the name, then there’s no problem.”

Their tight hold on the band name left Cowell with no choice over products or any business dealings related to the name.

“It was great to hear from him,” Cowell said, according to the Daily Mail.

“He said that listening to the podcast reminded him of the great times we had together.”

Cowell couldn’t hide his admiration for the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, and was touched that the 30-year-old had reached out, even as his fame continued to soar.

“I think it says a lot about him that he bothered to make that call.”

Despite the apparent lack of communication from Styles’ former bandmates with Cowell, it’s worth noting that both Tomlinson and Horan have chosen to unfollow him on social media following his recent comments about ownership of the One Direction name.

The members of 1D haven’t collaborated since 2016, but they’ve still reaped significant financial rewards, with a whopping $3.6 million sitting in their joint company account.

There have also been suggestions that Cowell and some of the band members have had some disagreements, with Cowell admitting to the unwavering loyalty of Styles, Tomlinson and Horan to him. Payne, on the other hand, has claimed that he and his bandmates have been swamped, admitting that he has had little or no personal time during their time together.

Payne said in an interview on Table Manners with Jessie Ware podcast via People magazine, “I just lived like a reclusive pop star, scared of everyone, just staying in the house all day.”

The “Strip That Down” singer added, “I definitely have to stop. It’s killing me.”
