Simon Cowell reveals what he regrets about working with One Direction

It’s been nearly a decade since One Direction announced their hiatus and many fans are still waiting for the group’s grand return even though the members all have solo music careers. More recently, Simon Cowell, one of the key people responsible for putting them together on X-Factor UKRevealing the future of the boy band.

The famous TV personality recently appeared on Diary of a CEO podcast with host Steven Barlett, where he discusses the band he once managed.

Band members Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson joined together X-Factor UK in 2010. They became a global phenomenon after being established on the reality TV singing competition show. They eventually signed to Cowell’s record label Syco Music.

When asked during the podcast if the famous TV star thought the band would reunite for a comeback, he replied: “I doubt it.”

During the interview, he discussed his biggest regret about working with the band: not owning the One Direction name for himself because each former member owns a percentage of their name.

“If one band member for whatever reason says they don’t want to tour, that could dissuade everyone else from touring,” he said.

Cowell went on to discuss that if he had the chance to own the name, a tour with just three members could still go ahead, and he then joked, “If you listen, I’ll buy back it from you.”

The recent news comes after Rolling Stone magazine reported that Simon Cowell will be holding auditions to find the next big boy band. The process will be filmed and featured in a “potential documentary series”.

The TV star will hold auditions in Newcastle, London and Liverpool, and the documentary series will be produced by Box to Box Films.

“Every generation deserves a superstar boy band and I don’t think any group has achieved the success that One Direction has over the past 14 years,” Cowell said in a statement.

He later noted that the project’s future was uncertain as there was still no guaranteed path to success, but Cowell was nonetheless excited about the auditions.

Besides being recognized for One Direction’s successes, the judges were also involved with other groups such as PrettyMuch, CNCO, Little Mix and Fifth Harmony.
