Early life and education
Taiwo Awoniyi, a professional footballer, was born on 12 August 1997 in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. He was raised by his father, Solomon Adewoye Awoniyi, and his mother, Mary Motunrayo.
Growing up, Taiwo had a special bond with his twin sister, Kehinde Awoniyi. As he progressed through life, he pursued higher education and successfully obtained a degree in business management from Buckinghamshire New University.
Career
Taiwo Awoniyi began his professional football journey at the Royal Football Academy in Nigeria. In 2015, a significant change occurred when he moved to Liverpool. However, his tenure with the club was short-lived, leading to an immediate loan spell at FSV Frankfurt.
While at FSV Frankfurt, Taiwo Awoniyi made 13 appearances and even scored a goal. He then embarked on a five-season loan spell that took him to clubs such as NEC Nijmegen, Mouscron, Gent, Mainz and Union Berlin.
2020 marked a turning point when Awoniyi signed a long-term contract with Union Berlin. His contributions shone in the 2020–21 season with an impressive record of 15 goals in 31 matches, leading Union Berlin to a historic fifth place in the Bundesliga.
The 2021–22 season saw Taiwo Awoniyi maintain his form on the pitch, scoring 15 goals in 34 appearances. His excellent performances earned him the Union Berlin Player of the Season award.
On 6 August 2022, Taiwo Awoniyi made his Premier League debut with Nottingham Forest in a 1–1 draw with Newcastle United, following a club-record transfer fee of £17 million in June 2022.
In addition to his club endeavours, Taiwo Awoniyi’s talents extend to the youth ranks of the Nigerian national team, including victories at the 2015 African U-20 Championship and the 2016 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
