Taylor Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets Department’ Will Hold No. 1 for 15th Week, But Social Media Users Aren’t Excited

Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” is on track to maintain its dominance on the Billboard album chart for a 15th week, but some social media users aren’t happy about it.

According to the latest figures from Hits Daily Double, Swift’s album sold another 85,000 copies.

Chart Data notes that based on the data, the 14-time Grammy winner’s latest release was the top-selling album this week. Coming in second was Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” which sold 71,000 copies in the same period.

Pop Base suggests that while there may be some slight variations in the specific data reported by Billboard, the overall conclusions are expected to be the same.

Swift’s album is projected to top the Top Album Sales chart for an eighth consecutive week, based on pure sales, and the Billboard 200 for a 15th week, based on total units sold.

There are mixed feelings about Swift’s latest achievement, however.

“[I] need Billboard to enforce some rules because this is NOT the way,” @cliqueminaj wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“[I] just bought some new versions why not keep blocking Kanye [West]?” @erenfromtargeet tweeted.

Another user, @everlikeme, defended the “Fortnight” singer, writing, “Remember, she didn’t need a version because she was already predicted to be at No. 1 with [75,000] while Chappell was doing [70,000]”

“This isn’t impressive because she releases a new version of the album every week to boost sales,” @positionsmafiaa argued, while @BARDIVERSACE sarcastically wrote, “Thanks to 938320 million versions.”

A recent post by Pop Culture on Facebook also drew a lot of reactions from users, who found the caption somewhat humorous, “Taylor Swift has now released at least 42 versions of her groundbreaking album ‘The Tortured Poets Department.'”

One user commented, “She’s basically like games these days. They release a decent, buggy version and then start adding ‘DLC’ to make people pay more instead of releasing a complete work.”

Another wrote, “I’m surprised Billboard doesn’t put in place a rule to stop this.”

One Swiftie came to the singer’s defense, writing, “Taylor releases versions because people want to buy them. But some other people want to release versions of their albums but no one buys them. So they don’t.”

A fourth person mocked Swift by commenting, “Taygreed’s tortured vocals,” while a fifth wrote, “A VERY small % of her fans appreciate this shameless, devious strategy. I’ve been a Swiftie forever, and this bullshit makes me uncomfortable. And this is her worst album to date.”
