Tekashi 6ix9ine, real name Daniel Hernandez, is back in police custody.
The 28-year-old rapper has long been in the spotlight due to his criminal activities.
He has now been arrested on an unspecified charge of violating his supervised release and will now appear in federal court on October 29, ABC reported.
Previously, 6ix9ine was released from prison in 2020 and placed on supervised release following his 2018 arrest on charges of fraud and attempted murder.
The newspaper reported that he had previously been released due to concerns about the coronavirus causing a pandemic. He was released at a time when a judge determined he faced a high risk of serious medical problems if he contracted COVID-19 behind bars, the newspaper reported.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is unusual and unprecedented in modern times in this country,” District Court Judge Paul Engelmayer said via ABC. It poses a clear and present danger to free society for reasons that need no explanation.”
“Covid-19 poses a high risk for detained defendants like Mr. Hernandez to develop respiratory diseases such as asthma,” he added.
Judge Engelmayer noted the special dangers faced by high-risk inmates like Hernandez.
“[T]The crowded nature of city jails, such as the facility where Mr. Hernandez is housed, creates a huge risk that the spread of COVID-19, once introduced, will spread. And in fact, a prisoner at high risk of contracting the virus while in prison will face challenges in taking care of himself,” he shared.
At the time of his arrest in 2018, he pleaded guilty and testified against his gang, the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods.
However, this year he also faced legal trouble when he was arrested for domestic violence while in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in January.
6ix9ine previously rose to fame in 2017 with his hit song “Gummo” and then topped the charts with his Nicki Minaj-assisted track “Trollz” in 2020. Overall, he scored three hits in the top 10.
