early life
Tila Tequila was born in Singapore and grew up in Houston, Texas. In 2001, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a modeling career.
She has two siblings, Terri Nguyen and Daniel Nguyen.
After appearing in several men’s publications, including Playboy, Stuff, and Maxim, she made her reality TV debut in 2003, the VH1 show Surviving Nugent. Tila Tequila’s career is as a music artist, author, model, and television personality.
Nguyen’s friends nicknamed her “Tila Tequila” because she seemed to hate drinking. She later explained in her memoir that she felt “confused” and “lost” due to many personal family and circumstantial difficulties. In an effort to express her intense emotions, she began writing poetry.
Tila Tequila ran away from home at age 16 and spent several months in Queens, New York City. She was the victim of a drive-by shooting in Houston at age 16. She claimed she was pregnant but miscarried the following year.
