Travis Kelce’s poor performance in games is being blamed on his time with Taylor Swift.
Former ESPN analyst Todd McShay has now blamed his “flying” and “partying” lifestyle with Swift for Kelce’s poor performance.
In an appearance on Podcast by Ryen Russillo on September 23, McShay didn’t hold back when it came to Kelce’s performance in the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 22.
“Every show I watch, every pre-game show, halftime show, post-game show, weekday show, every broadcast I watch over the last few weeks, I think we’re not allowed to say he’s not in good shape?” McShay asked.
“He’s been partying all season? He’s been hanging out with probably the most famous person in the world,” he added, referring to Kelce’s relationship with Swift.
One example McShay gave was when Kelce and Swift attended the US Open tennis tournament and were spotted drinking and having a good time.
“I want you to take a picture before the 2022 season and then take a picture before the 2024 season, they’re hardly the same person anymore,” he shared.
“The core issue here is with Kelce: The attention and respect he gets is the same, but as an athlete, it’s not,” McShay added.
Despite the criticism of Kelce, McShay still said Kelce will definitely get back to form at some point.
“Now, is he going to be able to work himself up to be in good shape for the season? Yeah, I’m sure he will. He’s an incredible competitor, he’s one of the best to ever do it and he still finds a way to make a play or two here and there and show up in some big moments, but he’s not himself anymore,” McShay said.
The commentator then made it clear that he “didn’t blame” Swift directly for Kelce’s performance.
“I think Kelce is doing more commercials and more activities, he’s doing more events, he’s doing more social activities,” he added.
After McShay’s words went viral, the internet reacted quickly, with mixed opinions.
“I find it funny how people are starting to blame Taylor Swift for Travis Kelce’s downfall. He was never that great (Gronk is a better TE) just had a crazy season last year because of TSwift lolololol the truth hurts,” one X user wrote.

“@FirstTake Travis Kelce has changed. Taylor Swift dyed his hair and he’s getting worse. She’s making him weak. (Yoko Ono.) I see him retiring,” another shared.

“I don’t blame Taylor Swift for the way Travis Kelce plays but I do blame her for the hair and sadly Travis is nothing without that horrible dye job,” another added.

“Taylor Swift really ruined Travis Kelce,” another added.
Outside of football, Kelce is busy with other projects. He has his podcast, New heightsalong with his brother Jason Kelce. Additionally, Kelce is one of the stars of Ryan Murphy’s new series called The weirdness and is the host Are you smarter than celebrities?
Over the summer, Kelce was also seen supporting Swift at several stops on her Eras Tour while she was overseas. At one point, he even joined Swift on stage for a show she did at Wembley Stadium in London.
Kelce and Swift began dating last summer, and Swift was soon spotted supporting Kelce at his football games in September of that year. She has since appeared at multiple games and was even in attendance to watch the Chiefs win the 2024 Super Bowl.
