Under the direction and mentorship of EB Fitzpatrick and his son, Gray, Chuck became news editor and then managing editor in 1976. He held that position until 1989 when he was appointed executive editor of the Portsmouth (NH) Herald.
He then worked as an editorial consultant for Thomson Newspapers in Boston and Pittsburgh, visiting newspapers along the East Coast. Chuck returned to Allegany with his family in 1993 as publisher of the Olean Times Herald, retiring in 1997.
Shane’s father passed away on November 22, 2021 at the age of 84.
