Early life and education
Zak Bagans was born on April 5, 1977 in Washington, D.C. His parents are Nancy Knapp, an interior designer, and Larry Bagans. He has three siblings: his biological sister, Meredith Bagans, and two half-siblings, Sky Bagans and Phil Bagans.
Bagans graduated from Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He then attended the Michigan Film Institute, where he studied filmmaking. He is of mixed ethnicity, mainly of Italian and Hungarian descent, and was raised Catholic.

Zak Bagans began his journey as a paranormal investigator in 2004 when he teamed up with Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin to produce a documentary-style film titled Spooky adventure. The documentary aired on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2007, paving the way Spooky adventure series, which premiered on Travel Channel in 2008. The series, now a long-running success, has aired for 19 seasons as of 2019.
Besides Spooky adventureBagans hosted a spin-off series, Spooky Adventure: Aftershock (2014–2016), explores the consequences of the team’s investigation.
