early life
Singer Bobby DeBarge died on August 16, 1995. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 5, 1956. His parents were Robert DeBarge Sr. and Etterlene DeBarge.
After his family moved to Grand Rapids in the 1970s, DeBarge began playing in a number of bands in the city before joining a few friends to form White Heat, Barry White’s backing band.
Bobby DeBarge is the oldest boy in the DeBarge family, born during the 21-year marriage of Robert DeBarge Sr. and Etterlene DeBarge. Gospel singer Etterlene DeBarge gave her children a lot of encouragement and helped them develop their skills.
Bobby DeBarge’s siblings are Bunny DeBarge, El DeBarge, James DeBarge, Tommy DeBarge, Chico DeBarge, Randy DeBarge, Mark DeBarge, Carol “Peaches” DeBarge and Darryl DeBarge.
Profession
Bobby DeBarge and his brother Tommy DeBarge both began playing in local bands. Later, in 1975, he formed a band with another singer, Gregory Williams. The two and several other musicians were accepted after successfully auditioning for the famous Barry White backing band, White Heat.
Barry White fired all but one of the singers from White Heat in 1976 due to tax concerns. Bobby Debach then teamed up with a dozen other singers to form Hot Ice. In 1977, the foursome released an album called Pall Mall Groove. When he returned to Grand Rapids, she became addicted to drugs. He later returned to the band, promising to quit.
Since the band members could “switch” between instruments, the band members were called Switch at the time. The band’s debut album, Switch, was released in 1978. In 1979, they released Switch II, and in 1980, they released their third gold album, This Is My Dream. By that time, Bobby DeBarge had returned to cocaine and stopped using it. His drug addiction caused him to clash with other band members. He suddenly quit the band in 1981 after the release of the band’s fifth album, Switch V.
After Bobby DeBarge left Switch, his siblings formed a band called the DeBarges. After El and Bunny left, Bobby joined the siblings’ band. He helped the band get back together, which led to the later release of Bad.

Bobby DeBarge’s late wife Teri DeBarge, also known as Teri Lee Gayle, rose to fame after her marriage to the late American singer Teri DeBarge, then known as Teri Lee Gayle.
She spent six years with the famous artist until Bobby’s death in 1995. After dating for a while, the two got married on December 10, 1990. They first met in the mid-1980s. When they first met, Terri DeBarge was only 15 years old and Bobby DeBarge was already in his early 30s.
There are speculations that El DeBarge’s ex-wife Monique DeBarge facilitated the relationship between Teri DeBarge and Bobby DeBarge. He has two children: Christian DeBarge, Bobby DeBarge Jr, and Bobby DeBarge Jr. He once dated La Toya Jackson.
