Camila Cabello just entered a new era of music with her latest album, C, XOXO. Drake is among the collaborators on her tracklist. More recently, the singer revealed how her two collaborations with the rapper came about.

The former Fifth Harmony member appeared in an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, saying that her connection with Champagne Papi began through DMs.

“I feel like, at least from what I know about myself, I feel like we’re musically aligned in a lot of ways,” she said of their friendship, adding, “I think we have a lot in common musically, and lyrically as well. I actually DM’d him, and I was like, ‘I’ve been listening to you a lot for this album,’ a lot of the wordplay and my desire for the bars.”
She further recounted that the rapper followed her around the time she released her song “Havana” and she was able to send him her new album to listen to.

They then came up with the idea for the song “Hot Uptown” and she wrote her part; they then “cut it down” to make the track feel like a duet.

Drake then redid his part and gave her an outro, which became part of another song, “UUUgly”.
Explaining the idea of the second track, she said: “It’s a twofer because he didn’t really need to give me an outro, but for me, it was like I don’t want to listen to a song like ‘Hot Uptown’ and then go into this minute detail where he’s saying his s-, so we decided to just do another song.”

In addition to Drake, other collaborators on her new album include Playboi Carti on “I LUV IT”, Lil Nas X on “HE KNOWS”, City Girls’ JT and Yung Miami on “Dade County Dreaming” and BLP KOSHER on “koshi xoxo .”
Cabello and Drake made headlines last December after sparking dating rumors. According to the Daily Mail, the couple was spotted spending time on a yacht and jet skiing at Noah’s Ark Beach Club in the Turks and Caicos Islands. At that time, they were accompanied by Kai and Valentine Lawrence.
As of this writing, the couple has never spoken out about whether they are romantically involved or not.
