Dimakatso Ratselane, a popular Lesedi FM presenter, is said to have suffered multiple stab wounds inflicted by her husband, Mackenzie Ratselane, on February 11 in Mangaung, Bloemfontein. An arrest warrant was then issued for Mr Ratselane, 39, on Monday, February 15, following unsuccessful attempts by police to contact him. After several days on the run, he was arrested in Ennerdale, Johannesburg, on Tuesday, 16 February 2021.
The tragic incident occurred as the couple reached their destination, where the husband accused his wife of being unfaithful and a heated argument led to physical violence. Mackenzie repeatedly stabbed Dimakatso, leaving her seriously injured and in critical condition. Discovered by locals in the middle of the night, she was taken to Pelonomi Hospital for emergency medical attention. Because her injuries were so severe, she was unable to communicate when she was found. Mackenzie fled the scene and was declared missing by authorities.
The stabbing of Dimakatso Ratselane prompted the South African police service to quickly take action, initiating an investigation and intensifying efforts to find the suspect. Social media was used to spread images of Mackenzie, appealing to the public for any information that would assist in the search. Law enforcement is determined to bring Mackenzie to justice for his crimes against Dimakatso.
After six days on the run, police found Mackenzie in a house in Ennerdale, Johannesburg. Following his arrest, he spent a night in jail and appeared before Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on February 18, 2021 for his initial trial. He faces charges ranging from possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition to assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, kidnapping and attempted murder.
